Waiting period complaint

My baby was born in March 2026 and unfortunately had to spend 5 days in NICU after birth. He had swallowed amniotic fluid during delivery and, as a precaution, was given antibiotics and monitored in NICU.

This was not a disease or pre-existing condition. It was something that happened during his birth and was completely out of my control.

However, because of this, Discovery has now placed my baby on a waiting period/exclusion for pneumonia, respiratory diseases and failure to thrive. This means that if my baby were to develop something like RSV, bronchitis, pneumonia or another respiratory condition, I have been told that Discovery will not cover the treatment during this waiting period.

As a mother, I am honestly terrified and extremely frustrated.

How am I supposed to protect my baby when he is being excluded from cover for illnesses based on something that happened at birth and wasn’t actually a disease or pre-existing medical condition?

His doctors have provided reports confirming that what happened was related to the birth, and not a diagnosed disease or chronic respiratory condition.
