Very disappointing unprofessional attitude from Discovery Health.
I have a Coastal Core plan with the above. My waiting period for claims has passed, but I have a "hold"for Hypertension until 30/6 /2019. I am eligible for hospitalisation in an emergency situation etc. Or so I am told. My hypertension is under control and treatment is ongoing..,, I was admitted to Melomed Hospital with BENIGN PROSTRATE HYPERPLASIA which caused severe urine retention, and pain. I was catheterized, and put into the high care ward. My anxiety and the fact that I had to make my own way to the hospital caused my blood pressure to rocket to 206. It is normally around 135 to 150. The doctor admitted me for hypertension, and NOT for B P H, which is why I went there in the first place ! I do not know what the symptoms are for hypertension. Who rushes to an emergency room with hypertension by oneself ? I am not hooked up to a blood pressure monitor 24 hrs a day. I told the physician that I was NOT eligible for claims for hypertension, because she was making a big deal out of it. It dropped to normal anyway quite soon, but could have been life threatening. The hospital sent the claim in incorrectly with hypertension as the main reason for my admission, WHICH WAS NOT WHY I WAS THERE. The physician ignored my warnings ( twice) as she was told this would happen. So Discovery declined to pay. I discussed this with Discovery and was told that the hospital must change the codes. They did, and resubmitted the claim. My medication for hypertension continued in the hospital, and the meds I was given are almost the same as the ones I have at home. I am now recieving every excuse under the sun for them not to pay my claim for anything. They seem to have conveniently forgotten about the B P H and concentrating on the Hypertension to create an excuse for not paying . 3 weeks later and I am still getting the run around. I am very disappointed and horrified by the way I am being treated by Discovery. This is a nightmare experience. Am I going to have this awful situation with them in future every time I have a claim ?? What am I paying for ? Do they expect one to die on the hospital pavement because a secondary life threatening symptom became evident ? What am I supposed to do ? I cannot recommend them to anyone, because of this experience. Membership no ********** 61
