Very disappointed

my husband added me as a beneficiary on his medical aid last year shortly after we got married. A month later I was involved in a car accident and was taken to Carstenhof for a check up. To our pleasant surprise we were told that I am pregnant. I was advised to get myself checked by a gyne. I did as advised and was then doing my monthly checks as the baby was well and unharmed. Closer to my delivery date when I was asked by my gyne to get the necessary confirmation from my medical aid...it was then when my husband and I were told that they will not be covering for my delivery because I joined the medical aid after I fell pregnant. We told Discovery that I had no idea I was pregnant until they told us after my car accident. They asked us to give them proof that that was the case - meaning if it could be proven then my case would be overlooked. We provided a copy of our claims where it specifically shows that I was checked at Carstenhof after a car accident.I feel like having to pay all the amount of money for medical aid is to avoid the exact same thing thats happening to me right now.I totally understand and respect their policies but some situations are beyond ones control.

Hello komoape,

Thank you for taking my call.

As discussed, we would be unable to review the waiting period that was imposed regardless of the date that the pregnancy was confirmed.

Baby will still have full cover as per the plan type as long as we received the request to add baby to the membership within 90 days. We will not impose any waiting periods.

Should you have any further queries that you may require assistance with, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Regards

Megan
