very careful if you receive authorisation

it takes a lot to upset me but I am incredibly disappointed regarding the service I received. Being on a hospital plan with Discovery Health I needed to go for an operation. After visiting my surgeon Dr Mistry, Fourways Hospital I received a quotation which I forwarded to Discovery for authorisation. The amount came to 11.870.50Rand for which I received an authorisation. Dr Mistry explained to me that I have to pay this amount in advance to him and I will get paid back by my insurance. Today I received an amount of 4.428,10Rand from my insurance. After phoning Discovery I was told that there is an agreement between Dr Mistry and Discovery Health which allows the Doctor to charge me in advance. I wasn't told that the Doctor is charging 200% and I will be paid 100% of the costs. Neither the Doctor explained this to me nor the Insurance. I was also told that it is my responsibility to confirm with the insurance even if I received authorisation for the quotation. As usual you are responsible and everybody else is washing their hands in innocence. Sorry Dr Mistry and Discovery if this is the way of dealing with your patients and customers... very very disappointing!!!
