Verification for authorisation
My son had injured his leg on the 25th January 2018. We then went ti the emergency room on the 27th, after they xrayed and investigated they referred us to the otheopeadic surgeon. We saw him on the 29th. He then said that we need to get a camera in the leg to see the extent of the damage, he would do this on the 30th January 2018. After phoning Discovery for authorisation they said that need to do a verification first, according to the call centre this means that they want to see if this is not a pre-existing condition, since we joined 3 months ago. To my mind this should have been a call to the attending doctor to verify why this is needed. Discovery then sent a form to our GP(who does not know about the injury) and after I called them again they sent the same form to the attending doctor, I then provided the injury report from the ER as well. This all happenened on the 29th. The morning of the 30th still no auth from discovery and as such my son missed his theatre time. Why is this needed for injuries, why am I paying for medical aid if it is going to take 24 -48 hours for authorisation?
