Useless Chronic Benefit

This issue has been raised repeatedly. The chronic benefit for generic cholesterol 80mg currently covers R45, approximately one-third of the total cost. Discovery Health previously stated that R45 was enough to cover the full expense, but inquiries at several pharmacies indicate that obtaining generic 80mg for R45 per month is not feasible. Over time, Discovery has reduced the coverage for this chronic benefit while increasing member contributions. Initially, the original medication was fully paid, followed by the generic, but now only a portion of the costs is covered.
