Although we have been on Discovery Heath medical aid since before we got married, we really feel betrayed by the service we received from Discovery Health as a medical scheme.

Being on the Classic Core hospital plan, we always had to pay for our own out of hospital expenses. As soon as I fell pregnant in 2014, we registered our pregnancy on Discovery's Vitality Baby portal. We also went to see our gynecologist, who then submitted our account to Discovery medical aid. We were unaware of the Maternity benefit available to us.

When our account at the gynecologist was submitted to Discovery, the account wasn't approved, although the account was submitted to Discovery with an ICD10 code indicating that I was pregnant.

Due to the fact that we always paid for our own out of hospital expenses, we paid the full amount of our gynecologist visits, blood tests and scans out of our own pocket.

Nobody from Discovery ever contacted us after any of the submissions of our gynecologist's account or any of the blood tests etc., to offer the information that we were eligible for a maternity benefit from Discovery. We then had another baby in 2018 and yet another one in 2020, with Discovery clearly noticing that we are paying all our blood tests and consultations in cash and nobody from Discovery providing us with any information regarding the Maternity benefit that we were able to access.

Having this benefit available and seeing that your members are not benefiting from it, but not informing your members about it when they need it, is ********* and dishonest service delivery.

Discovery had the information with all three our pregnancies to know full well that we attended the gynecologist frequently and was supposed to benefit from the maternity benefit, but just because nobody from Discovery informed us about it, we ended up paying all our pregnancy consultations, a NIPT test, downs screen blood tests and scans out of our own pocket, while Discovery kept on rejecting all our out of hospital claims regarding our pregnancy that was submitted to them.
