*********
Admitted to hospital for an unplanned procedure. The Anaesthesiologist that the Doctor is using is not on the Keycare network. He sent me an estimation of what he is going to charge plus the procedure codes. In order for us to make an informed decision whether or not we can afford to make use of this Anesthesiologist I phoned Discovery to find out what the shortfall is going to be i.e. what they pay for the procedure code vs. what the Anesthesiologist charges. I was told by Discovery that they cannot give monitory values and cannot tell me what the shortfall will be, they can only see what they are going to pay when the Doctor submits the claim. They said I must phone the Doctor's rooms they will be able to tell me what the difference will be what Discovery will pay and what they charge. The Doctor's room's told me that Discovery must be able to tell me what they pay for a procedure. This seems *********, surely they must be able to tell me what the shortfall will be and surely they must know what the monitory rate is that they pay for certain procedures, or do they just thumb suck and amount when they get the claim? How am I, the consumer able to make an informed decision
