Unclear Justification for R3500-00 Co-payment on Wisdom Teeth Removal
Dear Sasolmed/Discovery Team,
I am seeking clarification regarding the R3500-00 co-payment required for my daughter's upcoming wisdom teeth removal procedure. The procedure has not yet taken place and will be performed by a maxillofacial and oral specialist in a hospital, as advised by the specialist.
As I understand it, the specialist charges Discovery medical rates and is covered up to 150% by the medical aid, while the hospital costs are covered 100%. Given that both the specialist and hospital fall within the scheme's coverage, I am struggling to understand why a co-payment is still required.
Additionally, the annual medical aid increase was significantly higher than my annual salary increase, yet we as members are still burdened with these unexpected co-payments. The cost of living continues to rise far beyond what salaries can accommodate, making it increasingly difficult for families to keep up with medical expenses, despite paying high premiums for cover that should, in theory, reduce out-of-pocket costs.
I would appreciate a detailed explanation of why this charge applies despite the procedure being covered according to the policy terms. Transparency in such matters is crucial, and I hope Sasolmed can provide clarity to avoid unexpected financial burdens on members.
I look forward to your response.
