Trapped in Discovery Health’s Administrative Nightmare
On February 10, I joined an organisation that requires all employees to be registered with Discovery Health. By February 2, I had already completed and submitted all my medical aid forms to the organisation for processing. To my shock and frustration, I only heard from Discovery in mid-February regarding the application.
That was the beginning of a nightmare (experienced the same nightmare with them before - only that now it’s worse). From that point, it has been a never-ending, abusive process—one request for a form at a time—dragging on for approximately three weeks with no end in sight. What makes this even more infuriating is that we were Discovery members just the month before. Yet, the moment you start a new application, they seem to develop amnesia, treating you like a desperate fan begging to be their client.
The truth is, I despise Discovery. I am only with them because I have no choice. In my experience, they are the worst medical aid provider, always looking for ways to avoid paying out or taking accountability. They do not treat their so-called clients fairly or with respect.
After weeks of filling out forms, dealing with the employer’s broker, and spending hours on the phone repeatedly with Discovery, I am now requesting that Disvovery Health abandon this new application and reinstate my previous membership—at least while I am forced to remain with them. I have also asked my employer to consider allocating me the equivalent funds so I can secure medical coverage for my family elsewhere without the endless bureaucracy of repetitive and duplicate paperwork (which I do not know if they will do).
I have lost all patience and interest in filling out yet another form while my family remains without coverage. At this point, I am exhausted and look forward to a time that I will never have to deal with Discovery again. Their administrative processes are **********, and they are vastly overrated. This has been nothing but a terrible experience, and I suspect many people are forced into using them due to employer policies rather than personal choice.
What a shame.
