To have CANCER or NOT???? Discover not authorizing my procedure

I wish I could give Discovery Health a big ZERO with regards to hospital pre authorization.

This endless struggle started when my husband had to get a authorization for a procedure in the Gastroenterologist rooms for a G Scope and a gastric biopsy. Eventually after endless telephone calls daily it was approved.

My husband was referred to a Surgeon to remove a polyp. The physician told us that this must be removed as a matter of urgency as it will soon be cancer. My husband mother died of colon cancer which is also alarming.

The procedure was scheduled for Tuesday 14 July 2020

Thursday 9 July 2020 Went for the Covid 19 test (negative) Contact Discovery for pre authorization Discovery requested a letter of motivation from the doctor Contacted the doctor to request the letter

Friday 10 July 2020 Received no feedback from Discovery Called them again and was told that the doctor did not send the letter Called the doctor who confirmed that the letter was send

Monday 13 July 2020 My husband was told not to eat anything as the procedure was booked for the next day AGAIN called Discovery and again they said that they did not get a letter from the doctor

PROCEDURE WAS RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY 16 JULY 2020

Tuesday 14 July 2020 Again no call from Discovery We called again (was cut off twice) Discovery received the letter from doctor BUT now they needs the Pathology report I scanned same immediately and mail to them. I had to call back 1 hour later to see if it was received

FEEDBACK NOW IS THAT THE doctors letter and the report is not sufficient they now want another motivation.

The procedure has now been moved to next week. Every time my husband can not eat 24 hours before the operation and must clean his colon. The Covid 19 test has expired and we have to start all over. The entire process is mentally and emotionally unbearable for my husband and our family. The stress with regards to the procedure and the frustration with the medical aid.

At what stage do the medical actually assist ... if you have pre cancer , of if you get cancer. Will the process be better if I have a life threatening condition or is this the kind of treatment all members receive?

I moved from bonitas to Discovery in November and regret the move. Iwill however contact my Employer for assistance to move back to Bonitas.

I will not recommend Discovery (Comprehensive of Classic plans)

Last contact with Discovery was Friday.

Again nobody has taken ownership of this. Discovery promised to call me back ... another empty promise.
