Take your SMART plan and shove it!

Whoever dreamt up this “SMART PLAN” is a genius; designed to make Discovery Health a fortune while disadvantaging its member relentlessly. You, Discovery Health, refuse to pay a cent towards my ARV medication (even though it was prescribed by a GP on YOUR Network) yet, if I do not take the ARV’s as a preventative measure and contract the HIV/AIDS virus, then you will pay all hospital related costs, provided that I make use of one of the hospital on YOUR Network. The same applies to chronic medication to control Hypertension. You refuse to pay for the medication, yet you will pay for Angioplasty, which may have been avoided if I had used the medication prescribed by the GP on your network. You do realise that Angioplastry cost excessively more that Bilocor 10mg, right? You won’t pay for an ECG either so help me understand this… I should rather be admitted to casualties for chest-pain where, obviously an ECG will be performed and maybe I even have to go for Angioplastry. This you will pay for, correct? I’m sorry, I just don’t get the logic behind this SAMRT ‘DUMB’ PLAN of yours and my advice to anyone thinking of switching to the “SMART” plan is this… Do your homework thoroughly. This is, in my opinion, one of the worst medical aid plans on the market and how Discovery can even call it SMART, is beyond me, unless you consider it as being a SMART plan because it allows Discovery to occupy one of the smartest, fanciest buildings in Sandton. Are you, Discovery, encouraging me to rather go to casualties where you will pay for everything as opposed to going to a GP where you pay NOTHING? I hate this plan and I hate being a member of Discovery. More members should start taking you to court and more courts will hopefully start ruling in favour of the plaintiffs.
