Stop harassing me with calls and mails!

After I left the medical aid I received a call saying I had depleted my Medical Savings account and now owed Discovery R4064). I was told I could either pay the whole amount or pay in instalments at zero interest, so of course I chose to pay in instalments.<br> For the past 2 months I have made deposits equalling R2064 (of the owed R4064). I have 2 more instalments to pay off the outstanding R2000. Even though I have not missed a payment I keep getting various calls, emails, messages and letters demanding the money! The amazing thing is that when discovery sends the letters of demand

Hello Wendili,

Thank you for your comment.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) covers the cost of day-to-day expenses, such as visits to the general practitioner (GP) and to the dentist, as well as the cost for medicine. Your contribution is fixed to a level that legislation allows. You have access to the full amount immediately, like a loan, and each month you contribute to the MSA through your monthly contributions. Should you withdraw your policy or change your plan during the course of the year and you have used more than you have contributed to the savings, there will be an amount owing to the scheme.

We work out the amount owing to Discovery Health as follows:

o Amount contributed to the Medical Savings Account so far
o Less the amount claimed for day-to-day medical expenses & adding any interest earned on money in the account (calculated monthly in arrears if there is money in the account).

When there is an amount outstanding, there needs to be an arrangement in place in order for our Settlement Solutions team to follow up with the payment and no debt letters to be sent. We confirmed that an arrangement has been put in place in order to prevent this from reoccurring.

Regards
Annelize
