Stay away from Discovery. Take your money then rob you again

17 Dec. 4am. Husband taken to A and E at Vergelegen Mediclinic with food stuck in throat. Treated and discharged at 3pm. Discovery subsequently rejected part of Mediclinic's claim. Aparently they had sent an authorisation email to my husband telling him that as he was having a gastroscopy (which he wasn't - gastroscopy is a diagnostic procedure, this was an emergency procedure to remove a blockage) there would be a co-payment of R4000. This authorisation was sent to my husband AFTER HE WAS DISCHARGED. Sent, please note, not time received, because he did not receive it. This gave us no option to dispute the authorisation with

the hefty co-payment, or return to our GP, which we could have done as he was only attended to around 2pm. Discovery health costs me R10000 pm and behaves like this. Leaves such a horrible taste in my mouth to see a company like this involved in the Healthcare field. I spoke to a Discovery consultant on Monday who promised to come back to me yesterday. Still waiting. Discovery, please pay mediclinic who, in turn are causing stress and overwhelm with constant demands for payment.
