Stay away from Discovery medical aid, especially I'd you're to undergo surgery!

In August I was hospitalized for jaw surgery. Prior my admission, I contacted Discovery Health twice to obtain hospital authorisation, however on both occasions was advised that I did not need authorisation as it was an in-hospital dental procedure and therefore only a reference number (which was given to me) was necessary.

Post-op and discharge, I was advised by the hospital and anesthetist that the claims submitted to Discovery was declined.

The hospital account was declined due to no authorisation (this was later resolved after numerous phone calls to Discovery).

However, the anesthetist account still remains unpaid by Discovery due to "outstanding documents" which they've apparently requested from the service provider to no avail. How this account requires further documentation is beyond me considering the hospital account was settled for surgery!!

Further to this, my surgeon cost was paid out of my medical savings account opposed to my apparent unlimited in-hospital benefit and here too I received no further feedback from Discovery regarding my query.

I am so frustrated with having to continuously follow-up with Discovery for feedback, as even when they do call back, it's to advise that the matter is still under investigation.

My advice to anyone seeking medical aid, avoid Discovery you'd be hit with "fine print" when claims are declined or frustrating back and forth when you need medical attention.
