Stay Away from Discovery Health.

I am posting this so that if there is anyone considering signing up with Discovery...JUST DON'T. It would be the worst thing you ever do. I am unfortunately in a situation where I am forced to stay with Discovery. They definitely don't have their members interests at heart only their pockets. Have had the worst experience with them on multiple occasions and it is costing me a lot of money out of my own pocket. So in February my one year old was rushed to hospital due to extremely high fevers, diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. The doctor on duty requested tests to be done through Pathcare to determine whether it was a virus or bacteria infecting him as the conventional medicine wasn't breaking the fevers. So he gets better after the tests confirmed which "bug" it was and was sent home. All is well and then we get a bill from Pathcare as Discovery didn't pay for the claim even due to it being an emergency. So after chatting to Discovery asking to review the claim they declined it again as they kept on talking about no medical proof of the test actually doing what it is intended to do, my request was to review it based on in our case that it did determine what course of action to take and it worked, but they still declined it. So we had to take a knock on our Medical Aid Savings Account to pay for it. So there is still an amount outstanding that we want to claim through our gap cover, but do you think we can actually get the correct claims history from Discovery? It is sitting with the claims department, just hurry up and wait. This has been ongoing since July. It doesn't end there, so our Medical Savings Account is depleted, now both my sons get sick, not to worry Discovery gives free consultations...or do they??? So apparently they do but you have to jump through hoops and some more hoops to get the free consultations...but wait we didn't because we didn't know so just add some more money onto what we have to pay. So you have medical aid with no peace of mind that you are covered. So ultimately you have get permission from Discovery on everything you want to do even in an emergency, even it could cost someone's life. So I had a look on the DrConnect story what a mission to see a doctor and if you look at all the comments on the app you would actually never get your free consultations. So do yourself a favour and rather go else where.
