So, here I am, on your most expensive plan (executive), waiting for a liver transplant. You would imagine that the situation is stressful enough, but Discovery declines systematically half of the claims filed for the procedure: 1. It took a month and a half to approve the "basket of care" needed for the procedure.. 2. Just went for the mandatory colonoscopy/gastroscopy and was told there was a co-payment of R5150. Hello...!! I am paying over R15'000 monthly as a premium. I get it, you have have somehow to pay for the new headquarters in Sandton (which have enough space in the lobby to hang a Boeing 737 MAX, but they have to recycle those planes too). 3. I had to go for a bone density scan as well, pre-approved in the "basket of care", but declined because the individual going through the bill could not see the doctor's practice number (I can, it is on the first line).

Basically, the medical costs (and insurance premiums - DISCOVERY) are higher than in Switzerland, the most expensive place in the world until now. You are happy to take over R15'000 a month premium, but the donor's liver is free besides a few harvesting costs (there will be a lot of organs soon thanks to Corona). You refuse to pay half of the bills because a comma might be misplaced and the patient has got to do YOUR job!
