So what does Keycare actually cover? NOTHING

Heaven help us if anyone actually has a medical problem with Keycare!!!

I'm absolutely disgusted in the cover Keycare provides. They claim one thing, but always seem to have a way around it... Just so they don't have to pay. I left Keycare in favour of a medical insurance - they actually cover more!! My kids remained on Keycare to their fathers insistence (the idea being that medical aid far outshines medical insurance).

2 weeks ago my daughter went to see a doctor for a few moles that suddenly changed shape and colour. The first doctor was not happy and referred her to a specialist. We sent the authorisation form off, only for it to be rejected. We went to another doctor, who also confirmed that the moles did not look healthy, and to have them checked by a specialist. This time the doctor wrote a motivation letter to Keycare to cover the appointment. So the authorisation form, motivation letter and photo's were sent again. Bear in mind, this is a teenager.

We were advised that they do not cover cosmetic procedures. This was definitely not a cosmetic procedure, but a medical concern.

This time nobody even bothered to contact us back. A week after the second request was sent, I followed up with an email. Still no reply. Their father phoned and enquired and was told again, they will not cover it no matter what. When asked why not, they kept insisting they just won't. More pushing from our side, that this could potentially be cancer. No - they still refuse. We have been paying for more than 10 years with an odd doctor visit that they cover. They cover no medication (one child has asthma and they won't cover the pumps so we have to buy the generic one cash). Bee allergy, but won't cover epipens (it's a luxury apparently).

The other child landed up in casualty late one night after a bad fall and could not walk. They needed to do x-rays they were concerned about the injuries. I accepted I had to pay an amount of R300. But then I had to pay another fee for a doctor because Discovery won't pay. And x-rays that are supposed to be paid for, would not be covered either and I ended up paying more cash!!!

Please tell me why am I paying all this money if I get nothing for it. Surely a basic hospital plan would be better (in case of hospitalisation) and I'd have a healthy looking bank balance if I rather paid the installments into a bank account for emergencies like this.

So I ended up paying cash for my daughter's specialist appointment and he is actually concerned about 2 moles, but for now we've been told to keep an eye on them and come back in a few months.
