So Sick of Discovery Health

I am sick to death of Discovery Health.

Last year 9 January 2016, I had a medical emergency an was rushed to Netcare Waterfall City Hospital for an asthma attack. I was treated by staff and sent home to recover.

This incident was claimed for, which I have proof of, in the form of an email statement from Discovery Health sent to me on 14 January 2016, stating the amount claimed for and the full amount would be paid on 20 January 2016.

To my disbelief, at the beginning of December 2016, almost a year later, I got a call from the hospital saying that I owe for treatment on the same day of my attack.

Needless to say I told the hospital where to get off an referred them to the statement from Discovery. It was only after further harassment from the hospital with threats of getting me blacklisted that I followed up with Discovery.

To my amazement, the claim had in fact not been paid, despite my claims statement saying that it would be paid a few days after the incident, and in FULL. If we arent to rely on these statements sent by Discovery then what can we rely on.

No problem I thought... I contacted Discovery to inform them of the problem. The first of many agents I spoke to made it sound simple enough. All that was required was to fill out a special payments form which was explained to me over the phone, as well as exactly what to fill in. This was sent a few hours after this first contact.

A few days later I'm sent a rejection because I needed to state treatment and dosage in my claim, which the agent didn't inform me about.

After many phone calls later to the hospital, I was finally sent a breakdown of the meds that were used to treat me on the night that occured over a year previously.

I have followed up with several more phone calls and multiple complaints and this matter is still not resolved. I have been told to allow 2-3 working days for the matter to be resolved for the past few weeks lol.

At this very moment of writing this, I have received a call from Discovery to inform me that the claim has not been paid because of a nappi code on my bill from the hospital, which is not specific enough. The amount being disputed. . . wait for it. . . 13 cents. You read right. I have been going from pillar to post over 13 cents. How ridiculous!!!!

Mind you I am not an administrator for the hosiptal and I do not work for Discovery. I am a paying customer who pays his premiums every month and receives lacklustre service for it.

The phone call ended with me being told that Discovery will call the hospital to get this nappi code so that the claim can be paid. Needless to say, I will believe that when I see it.

To say that this matter has been testing is an understatement. I am now beyond fed up and will take this complaint to their Sandton headquarters, attorney in-tow, if need be.

To anyone who may have wanted to join Discovery, I would really take a long hard think about this. If my claim is not resolved soon, I will be moving to a different provider. I will encourage my family members who are also main members, to do the same.

Regards

TN

Discovery Membership # ********** 15
