SMART PLAN not so "SMART" afterall.!!!!!
My son, who had been on our Discovery Medical Aid Plan for over 15 years, got married, and he and his wife, who was on Keycare Plus, changed over to the Essential "Smart" Plan. When my Daughter in Law called the Call Centre, as there are shown to be NO SPECIALISTS or AL**** AND THE****UTIC PRACTITIONERS as Designated Service Providers on the Smart Phone App - in fact, there appear to be NO Practioners covered at all on the Smart Plan App, although a basket of benefits is part of this "not so smart" product As someone very well informed of Regulation 8 of the Medical Schemes Act, that provides LEGISLATED cover for 270 Prescribed Minimum Benefits and 26 Chronic Illnesses on ALL Medical Aid Schemes, I decided to contact the Call Centre myself. I was given the same information, in a blatant contravention of The Medical Schemes Act. I queried this with an Executive Team Leader, who agreed with me, but said it was up to the Medical Aid Member to find a Designated Service Provider. She provided me with a list of names of Specialists and The****utic Service Providers that WE had to call to check if they were, in fact, on the Smart Plan. She also delegated my query to another Executive Consultant who told my daughter in law, that she had NO SPECIALIST COVER ON The Essential Smart Plan. If the "workings" of this plan are NOT resolved within a short period of time, then I would like the Registrar at Council for Medical Schemes to have Discovery Health withdraw this Plan, so that ALL Discovery Health Members can once again contact the Call Centre, and have their legislated PMB and CHRONIC benefits DISCLOSED and ACCESSIBLE. Smart Plan is not supposed to involve spending a fortune on SMARTPHONE AIRTIME to contact 20 Doctors, to find one that is situated less than a tank of petrol from ones' home.
