Shocking service.....disappointed!!

Dear Discovery medical aid

Re: member nr ********** 30 query

Dated 21 June 2016

I app**** for medical aid on the beginning of march but due to a delay on discovery's side I was only accepted on this medical aid from the 1/4/2016 with no waiting periods. I have completed my application form as honestly and truthfully as I could. I had selected your medical plan due to the fact that I have been on this plan previously and had great service. I paid a double instalment on approval and have been paying on time every month so far.

It was explained to me that I could start using the medical aid at any time as I do not have any waiting periods and no exclusions. Which was fine with me as I am not a sickly person but knew that it was available if I needed it, that why I have a medical aid.

A few weeks into the medical aid I started feeling ill and feeling extremely dizzy. I went to see my dr and explained how I felt. I had high blood pressure due to stress and due to my circumstances and my dr said that this is depression. I have lost my father and sister to cancer and was busy going thru separation which was very stressful. He has put me on tablets for a short period of time (max 6 months if so long) and suggested that I see a psychologist to work thru my problems which will help me deal with this and I will be fine after that. All which I have been paying for out of my own pocket but after my sessions I feel normal again and don’t feel depressed at all like before.

Last week I noticed that my breast has a burning sensation and knowing that my sister had breast cancer I decided to go to the dr and get a referral to see a specialist just to go for a normal gynaecologist visit and for him to check that all is okay and for a normal check up which is recommended for all females? I contacted the discovery call centre and it was confirmed that I have benefits available and just need the doctor to complete a referral form for me.

I then got a phone call from Discovery today to say that my membership will be cancelled with immediate effect due to the fact that I did not state that I went to the dr in 2008/9 ?? and was also then diagnosed with depression. Obviously not chronic is I amnot on Iong term treatment or meds, but that I do not remember this as this has been over 8 years ago. If I did remember this I would have given thru the information on my application form as I am aware of supplying correct information. I will not deliberately give false information. I have never kept track to when and why I ever been for a doctors consultation.

I feel that your fund is being unreasonable regarding this. I feel its unfair to decline me due to reasons that I cannot remember. I have paying my contributions every month on time.

They are following up with a clinical psychologist on a review on me. I phoned the specialist and she confirmed that I am not and have not been a patient of hers and have never been to see her before.

I am still waiting feedback on the termination of my membership for about 3 weeks and counting. I fell very ill this week and had to go to a provincial hospital for assistance. PATHETIC!!!! I am very disappointed in the services rendered by Discovery and I will definitely take this further. I had been phoning in and getting endless stories and time frames and a agent will get back to you shortly ??????? When can I expect a phone call from discovery, maybe another 8 weeks??

Will not recommend this scheme to any one, seems like a money making option on there part.
