Shocking Client Service
Following an emergency admission into hospital for my mother-in-law, I logged a query on the 04th July, regarding claims that were not processed correctly. I am still awaiting final resolution & explanation why the claims were processed incorrectly?
"What is a medical emergency? An emergency medical condition, also referred to as an emergency, is the sudden and unexpected onset of a health condition that requires immediate medical or surgical treatment. Failure to provide medical or surgical treatment would result in serious impairment to bodily functions or serious dysfunction of a bodily organ or part or would place the person’s life in serious jeopardy. An emergency does not necessarily require a hospital admission. We may ask you or your treating provider for additional information to confirm the emergency. Assistance during or after a traumatic event You have access to dedicated assistance in the event of a traumatic incident or after a traumatic event. By calling Emergency Assist you and your family have access to trauma support 24 hours a day. This service also includes access to counseling and additional benefits for trauma related to gender-based violence. What we pay for We pay for all of the following medical services that you may receive in an emergency: The ambulance (or other medical transport) The account from the hospital The accounts from the doctor who admitted you to the hospital The anaesthetist Any other healthcare provider that we approve."
We’ve noted your concerns and we’re investigating the matter. We’ll contact you with feedback as soon as possible.

How can you state that there was a R0 balance on the 23/06/2024?
2. Claims processed from MSA between 03/05/2024 and 06/06/20242.1. Claim dated 03/05/2024 for Spiro Wilson Duncan and Fourie IncorporatedClaim reference number: BENqq5We processed the claim for R2,009.80 on 03/05/2024. We are unable to confirm the time the claimwas sent as it was sent to us electronically. The claim did not link to an approved authorisation andwas paid in full from the MSA.The preauthorisation request was approved on 03/05/2024 at 13:05. The authorisation number forthis admission is ***2.We reprocessed the claim on 10/07/2024 and paid it from the Hospital Benefit.I would like an explanation why this was not picked up by the Claims Department when there was an approved authorisation number. As a result of this mistake the MSA balance was reduced which would have affected other claims being processed correctly. Does Discovery expect members to ensure that claims are linked? Feedback required from CEO of Discover Health on why your systems & processes don’t work?
2.2. Claim dated 06/05/2024 for Spiro Wilson Duncan and Fourie IncorporatedClaim reference number: BEmYgoWe processed the claim for R696.78 on 11/05/2024. The claim did not link to an approvedauthorisation and was paid in full from the MSA.The authorisation number: ***2 was pended on 09/05/2024 as we were awaiting additionalclinical information from the facility. On 14/05/2024, the hospital admission was approved for sevendays. We reprocessed this claim on 09/07/2024 and paid it in full from the Hospital Benefit. As indicated in the email we sent to you on 23/07/2024, R696.74 remains paid from the MSAbecause the out-of-hospital physiotherapy claims were paid from the limited Above ThresholdBenefit (as indicated in points 1.2 and 1.3. above).I would like an explanation why this was not picked up by the Claims Department when there was an approved authorisation number. As a result of this mistake the MSA balance was reduced which would have affected other claims being processed correctly. Does Discovery expect members to ensure that claims are linked? Feedback required from CEO of Discover Health on why your systems & processes don’t work?
2.3. Claim dated 05/05/2024 for Els I KClaim reference number: BEuYObWe processed the claim for R2,681.20 on 12/05/2024. We initially paid R1,418.20 from the MSA. Asindicated in point 2.2. above, the authorisation was pended on 09/05/2024 and it was approved on14/05/2024.We reprocessed this claim on 10/07/2024 and paid it in full from the Hospital Benefit. As indicated in the email we sent to you on 23/07/2024, R385.74 remains paid from the MSAbecause the out-of-hospital physiotherapy claims were paid from the limited Above ThresholdBenefit (as indicated in points 1.2 and 1.3. above).I would like an explanation why this was not picked up by the Claims Department when there was an approved authorisation number. In summary this clearly indicates that Discovery have no idea how to process claims. I find this whole exercise a total waste of time & energy. If Discovery had provide the correct service in the first place I would not have to run around with this audit. As this stage I have no idea what is owed to who & why!!
I insist that all these claims related to this hospital event be processed correctly & all providers notified & paid accordingly. If I receive any more claims that have not been paid I will forward them onto you until they are paid.
