SHAME ON YOU DISCOVERY! SO *********!!
So, I have been a loyal member for the past 5 years to Discovery up until the 10th of September.. after my husband and I got married, he joined Discovery on the 1st of August 2018 and I moved from my Discovery medical aid to his as a dependent because his company contributes 50% of the payment.. since then we went to the optometrists to get him new glasses as his old pair needed replacing, however the optometrist sensed that there was a bigger problem, so we were referred to an ophthalmologist to see what was wrong.. since then my husband was diagnosed with Keratoconus, and requires surgical procedure .. then on the 10th of September my husband got an extremely rude phone call from a Rosanna Kinloch whereby she interrogated my husband and therefore then terminated our medical aid from the day of inception (1 August 2018) because of non-disclosure in the application.. When the application was filled, we did mark “no” by any eye issues because my husband was not diagnosed with any issues, yes he did have some blurry vision but we thought that it was caused from sitting by a PC all day and he just needed his glasses (which he also got from Discovery previously) to be replaced.. we had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA that this would have taken us on the road that he required an in-hospital procedure and therefore causing our medical aid to be withdrawn..
In no way did we foresee this turn of events and since then, I (who has been a member for 5 years) am now without a medical aid, and THANK GOODNESS that I have not fallen pregnant yet as we have been trying, because of the position that I am in now.. now I have to try get on another medical aid (definitely not with Discovery) and hopefully not suffer any consequences such as a waiting period, because of the withdrawal “I have not been on a medical aid since the 1st of August 2018”.. The only way for me to go back with Discovery and not face any penalties is to reinstate my old medical and pay for August and September, but really in these times, who has R4400 sitting around waiting to pay for something like this..
Discovery acted in such an ********* way that is it so disappointing to me that after my loyalty, I was just shunted aside just because I was only the dependent..
And because of this change my vitality has also been terminated.. I have my gym membership on vitality and I have my Apple Watch on vitality.. My Black Tag at Planet Fitness was cancelled.. just one more thing that I need to try and sort out before I get debited R5000 for my Apple Watch and have to pay a full membership at Planet Fitness.. Oh but it is fine, because I am just a number to Discovery and not a person.. What if I got into an accident?? And I landed up in a government hospital? What was the point then of paying my medical aid for 5 years WITHOUT any claim???????? Now I have to take out a Life Policy with Discovery just so I can try and save my vitality..
Discovery is EXTREMELY ********* and it is very sad!!!
Why couldn’t the decision just be to say that “no we won’t cover the surgery and due to non-disclosure, we will not be coming any eye procedures or surgeries for 2 year” rather than cutting us off completely..
The way that Discovery and Rosanna Kinloch handled this situation is extremely appalling and I will never recommend Discovery again.
