Select benefit ****

I recently found out that Discovery Health had been charging a \select benefit\" premium to my Classic Comp health plan for +-17 years without my approval and knowledge! The charge was hidden in my monthly premium with no way of picking it up until I found it recently by accident. Discovery also stopped selling the \"benefit\" years ago and as above no mention was ever made to me of this. I have now been asking for over 3 months for proof that I requested the plan yet nothing has been provided and now my queries, calls and emails are being ignored. I want all premiums refunded, plus interest, and I will now start to use social media to see who else has been ********** by this ****. "

Hello a1b35,

Thank you for your comment.

The Select Benefit was not initially an ancillary or add on benefit. It was integrated in the Select and the Discovery for Doctors Plans. These plans were discontinued at the end of 2003. Effective 1 January 2004, members on the Select and Discovery For Doctors plans were moved to their underlying plan type. Members on these policies continue to have the Select Benefit ancillary attached to their membership and retain the cover that they enjoyed on the Select and Discovery for Doctors Plans.

Though we understand that you did not add on the Select Benefit as an ancillary benefit, the benefit was offered to you based on your health plan and with this we never terminated your benefit up until your request. We are unable to refund you all premiums to date, as not only did you have cover and peace of mind from the benefit, but the benefit has been utilized twice already. I can confirm however, that you have been withdrawn from the Select Benefit effective 29/02/2016 and no further premiums will be collected for this benefit.

I trust my explanation has provided clarity in this matter.

Regards
Norman
