Over the past 20+ years I feel that I have learnt my lesson with Discovery, only to be disappointed again after doing a lot of research before my “benefit”. The worst thing I went through wasn’t my dad having cancer but having Discovery as a “partner” along the way was the worst experience of my life. I spent all my time on the phone “fighting” with Discovery where I could have spent it with my dad. In all instances after numerous hours, days…months my issues were resolved, but only when I got an expert involved. I appreciate that you have a bottom line margin to look out for - but then rather be straight forward about what you cover and don’t cover - Don’t attempt to deal directly, get a broker or a lawyer involved !
So today I went for a screening an preventative pap smear as covered under my screening an preventative cover “benefit” to find out that it is not really a benefit … I had to pay for the consultation and Pap smear. I read through their marketing material again when I got home to see how misinterpreted the info- but it was clear you have cover for a screening and preventative Pap smear. But in short - you are not covered for the doctor to perform the Pap smear or for the Pap smear itself— unless you have funds in your savings account. They only fund the analysis of the Pap smear and if it is cancerous they will pay for what you had to pay upfront…. So why position it as a screening and prevention benefit if you only cover certain parts with a lot of TC&Cs
