Retrenched and forced to pay the highest premium for cover
I've been a member of Discovery Health (Classic Saver) for 9 years. Then I got retrench. I've chosen to stay on Discovery, but couldn't stay on Classic Saver, because I'm 61 and does not have a new job. So, for the unforeseen future my income will be zero and my husband only get a small disability payment from Sanlam. I wanted to go on Key Care Plus, on the lowest bracket, but Discovery says my premium must be calculated according to my last 12 months' income!! How on earth does that make sense??!! That may be correct for people who stays in the same job and just want to apply for Discovery medical, but surely, they must be a difference/exception when someone has been retrenched? Who will be able to afford the top bracket on Key Care Plus if you are without a job?? No Discovery, I'm really disappointed in you!
