RENEGING ON PAYING AFTER AUTHORISATION GIVEN
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in June last year. After submission of all the medical reports, Discovery sent a letter stating that they have allocated R400 000 treatment benefits for her. Several claims were initially not refunded to us and I had to resort to sending insulting emails, after which they 'discovered their error' and all was on track again. Seven months of chemo treatments followed by the huge operation in December 2015 for removal of the cancer and resultant mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. The surgeons submitted their quotations and I was requested to obtain approval code from Discovery who said they required further motivations which the surgeons supp****. Approval for these procedures were given directly by Discovery to the surgeons who then booked the theatre and hospital and they performed surgery. Accounts for close on R100,000 were presented and Discovery paid 50% to me. Between the call centre and their email responses Discovery cannot supply any proof that they ever informed me PRIOR to the operation that they would only pay 50%. Fortunately I was able to pay the surgeons the other 50%. If not, I would have ended up with bad credit record
