REJECTION OF SPINAL CORD STIMULATOR (SCS) FOR OCCIPITAL NEURALGIA

My daughter is 19 years old and was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome when she was 6 years old. She has undergone numerous procedures and pain control treatments over the years, including radiofrequency ablation. For the past 2 years, she has been suffering from bilateral occipital neuralgia. She has constant headaches, a sensitive scalp, and is unable to brush or wash her hair properly due to the pain. She also struggles to wear glasses and lie her head down comfortably. The pain is incapacitating. The only relief has come from using opioid medications, but she has been using opioids for 2 years now. The opioids are becoming less effective, but increasing the dose will severely limit her quality of life. The ONLY OPTION, as advised by her Pain Specialist and her Neurosurgeon, is an SDS. This is a known and effective treatment for such cases. Despite a motivation letter to this effect, Discovery has REJECTED the surgery, saying that an SCS is not recommended for occipital neuralgia. This is blatantly untrue. My daughter needs this SCS. This is the only way to minimize her pain, and we have exhausted all options. I call on Discovery to please urgently review her case and authorize the procedure.
