REFUSE TO COVER CHRONIC MEDICATION
I am pregnant and I have a chronic blood clotting disorder called Factor V Leiden. I have been diagnosed with this way before my pregnancy. All doctors and specialists I have been to, including gynaes, stress the fact that I should not be withiut the blood thinning injection, Clexane. I should use this medication until 6 weeks after my pregnancy. Not using it hold a huge risk for me developing blood clots as well as for baby. Despite the fact that it is a chronic disorder, Discovery refuses to pay out of my Chronic Benefits. Our savings is depleted. I am not at a point where we cannot afford these expensive injections anymore and I have no other choice than to go without it. This causes an immense load of stress to me and baby in my pregnancy. I have lodged dispute ect, to no avail. The ‘medical review team’ is not fit to make such complicated disorder decisions. Even a hemaetologist stressed the fact that it is really dangerous for me to go withou Clexane. My mother has suffered a stroke because of the same disorder that I inhereted from her. Still they refuse. I am so dissapointed as we have always been well cared for by Discovery, but in such a time as pregnancy which is suppose to be a happy time, I am stressed beyond belief. You have failed me.

It doesnt help our situation at all. I am also aware of the unfair way in which Discovery handles these claims. I find it discriminating and extremely unfair that other woman I have been in contact with managed to get their Clexane covered after handing in a report from a heamaetologist. They have the exact clotting disorder as mine, and their dosis is tripple the dose of my prescription, and they are covered out of PMB or CIB as chronic medication, not out of their savings. I am refused treatment for the minimun dosage. I am at my wits end. You are causing tremendous stress. My husband and I can no longer manage to buy my injections cash, and what is so dissapointing is knowing that other patients are cared for, but not me. For what reason?
