REFUSAL TO REFUND MEDICAL AID PREMIUMS

I have been with Discovery for many years as were both my parents. I paid their monthly premiums because they were elderly - my father was 92 at the time of his passing and my mother passed away on 30th September 2024 at the age of 93. I notified Discovery on 2nd October and sent through the death certificate and all the supporting documents. The premium was deducted from my bank account on the 2nd October. At the end of November the premium was deducted AGAIN despite having been sent the Death Certificate. I've sent several emails requesting they refund me the two months premiums but they keep insisting I provide an Executors letter. I've told them several times there is no estate as my mother had nothing so therefore there is no Executors letter. They still insist on that letter stating they cannot give me any information or act on my instructions as threw proxy I had on her medical aid ceases at death. Well that I can understand but what I don't understand is why they refuse to pay back my premiums which they erroneously debited unless I submit an Executors letter. There is no executor so now I must forfeit over R10000. I myself am also a Pensioner and can ill afford to lose that much money.

Yes Discovery did contact me. Told me I had to go to the High Court or even the Magistrates Court to get a Letter of Authority and an Affidavit from the Police Station stating that I had paid the premiums for my mother and confirm the bank account. Bearing in mind they debited me after I had informed them of my mother's death. I got the Affidavit and went to the magistrates Court at 7:30 (they open at 7:45). I was told to go to office 61 where I waited for the lady who strolled in at 9:00. She asked for my mother's Death Certificate and asked where her husband was. I told her my father passed away in 2017. The death certificate showed her as married so I was told to go to Home Affairs so they could change that to Widow. I did that later only to be asked for my Fathers Death certificate which I obviously did not have with me and was told it would take several months to rectify. The lady from the magistrates court then asked where the letter was from Discovery reflecting the refund amount. She did not ask for the Affidavit at all. I explained that Discovery would not give me any correspondence without the Letter of Authority and she won't help me without a letter from Discovery so I'm going around in circles. By this time I was in tears. She gave me a letter to send to Discovery requesting documents reflecting values payable to the estate. There is NO estate. This is money erroneously debited from my account and has nothing to do with her assets or lack thereof. Why is it so difficult to get what is owed to me. I'm not sure that all this fighting for my money is worth the stress, time and travelling so I hope Discovery are happy for putting me through all this because of their flippin mistake and they can stick my money where the sun don't shine. It might be in my best interest to investigate an alternative medical aid supplier. I'm totally disgusted at their attitude.
