Refusal to pay for reconstructive surgery after botched post-mastectomy implants

<p>After surviving breast cancer, a double mastectomy, reconstuctive surgery and horrific chemo, my friend has been left with badly disfigured, uneven, imploded breasts/implants. She managed to find a surgeon that specialises in post-mastectomy reconstructive surgery who sent a letter of motivation to Discovery in order to remove the implants and reconstruct her breast correctly. Discovery had declined this request based on the fact that "We only cover one reconstruction per lifetime following malignancy". She had her implants put in during the same surgery as her mastectomy, so, in essence, they would have covered her for her reconstruction should she have decided to have her reconstruction at a later stage. I am disgusted that Discovery are not willing to look at this case on its merits, rather than using a "blanket" rule to decline the care that she needs and deserves.</p>
