Refusal to pay claims
My son was born 2 months ago. As he was to be added on my medical aid (Discovery Health) and not my wife's, I contacted the Discovery Health call centre before his birth to ask regarding the procedure. I was told that they could only add my son as a beneficiary once he is born and has a birth certificate. This was done immediate after birth (once I had the certificate). Now Discovery Health is refusing to pay hospital expenses for my son incurred after birth: reason given is that it was not preauthorised. How can I preauthorise procedures before I can add the beneficiery.

I have contacted Discovery Health by phone after which I was told that there was nothing that they can do. I have also sent an email requesting clarity on this issues but I am still waiting for a reply. Communication from Discovery is very poor and vague.

Following issues with Discovery relating to payments from my Medical Savings Account (MSA) I am very dissatisfied with the poor service and communication from Discovery Health. I have also decided to change my plan to one without a MSA - I will now rather keep these funds in my account and manage it myself, and I would urge all Discovery members to do the same.
