R3083p/m and I still need to pay for my own stitches...

After being a loyal member of Discovery medical aid for most of my life, I have been fortunate enough to never had to make use of my medical aid scheme benefits for an emergency situation. I accidentally cut open my forearm and knee one Sunday afternoon and had to rush to the hospital to get stitches. The hospital staff assured me that I can claim from Discovery after the fact, but I had to pay cash on the spot.

I then submitted my claim via the app, and promptly received correspondence stating that the claim has been rejected due to my medical savings being depleted. The call centre agent told me that I should consider looking at a different plan. How am I supposed to consider paying MORE money for medical aid, when Discovery expects me to pay for almost all medical expenses out of my own pocket?

Discovery is obviously only in the medical aid game to make money and don't really seem to care about providing assistance when you need it most. I am expected to pay almost R40 000 per year for medical "aid", but when I am in an emergency Discovery doesn't see the need to pay R1902 for stitches to stop my arm and leg from bleeding.
