Poor way of looking after an employee.
My wife is an employee of Discovery. Earlier this year, she was rushed to hospital with appendicitis. She had surgery performed to remove her appendix, and subsequently spent some time recuperating from the surgery. She was a new employee, and because this happened within an alleged probation period, she had a whole month's salary deducted over the following two months. After having a rather turbulent year, she decided to end her employment with the company. She fulfilled her contractual obligations by giving due notice. Her fellow staff members all go on leave following the 15th of December, however, because she handed in her resignation, the company paid out less than a third of her salary. According to the CCMA and Basic Conditions of Employment act, an employer must pay an employee for any paid time off to which an employee is entitled, and may not make any deductions to her salary without prior written consent. It would seem that all other employees are paid in full for December, how is it that the company has deducted more than two thirds of her salary? She has had no success trying to get help from her HR department. Unfortunately, because no one from HR would help, I was hoping that we could get a response from this platform.
Kind regards Jonathan Wernich
