Policy Cancelled without Notification

I was covered under my previous employer's medical aid, which was a Delta Saver option. I resigned to start at a new firm. My policy should have moved to private capacity effective 1/7/2015.

I filled in the form to change my bank details. My broker, NMG, never informed me to provide extra documents, so according to me, all was in order. Discovery to withdrew my account.

Discovery withdrew my account without a phone call, without an email or without a letter. I accidentally found out wasn't covered anymore on the 20th of July. I needed to phone Discovery. They said I needed to pay for the month of July that they withdrew my cover without notification. I refused to pay for poor service (R1900). They said I will have to cancel my policy and apply for a new one. I did that.

Now Discovery phones me and tells me, after I cancelled my old policy, I am liable for +-R2600 owed on my saver account.

I just want a policy that continues from the old, and I will not pay for the one month of bad communication. Why is Discovery strong arming me into paying for their lack of communication and advising me, without informing me of additional costs, to cancel my policy. Please help me discovery.

Hello Henk123456,

Thank you for your comment.

I confirmed our Team has contacted you and addressed your concerns.

When a member joins the Scheme through certain employer groups all financial changes are done through the employer. We received a request to withdraw your membership from your previous employer through their broker. We withdrew your membership as per the instruction. We responded back to the broker and employer who in turn would inform you.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) is a fixed amount that the Scheme gives you at the beginning of the year for day-to-day medical expenses. You pay this amount back to us each month and this forms part of your monthly contribution. If you leave the Scheme part-way through the year and used if you have used more from the account than what you have paid into the account, then you will need to pay the difference to us.

We do allow members 90 days to reinstate their membership subject to all outstanding premiums being paid and we do not allow premiums to be waivered as this would mean a break in cover. I understand that you are not satisfied with the feedback however it is in line with Scheme rules.

Regards
Jashvir
