PLEASE DEFINE EMERGENCY

<p>Saturday 17 Sept ’16 around 23:00 my mom was rushed to casualty at Midvaal Private Hospital Vereeniging due to UNBEARABLE PAIN in her right hip. Doctor on scene proceeded to rule out possible blood clot and blood test results were in favour. However, the pain remained even after a morphine injection. She was admitted into the hospital and transferred to Dr Joseph Breytenbach (Orthopaedic Surgeon) who sent her for x-rays on Monday morning 19 Sept. He strongly suggested that she go for an MRI scan as her Lumber Spinal Discs L2 –L5 showed possible signs of damage. On Tuesday morning 20 Sept. the MRI scan authorisation was denied by Discovery Health. Why??? My mom was NOT aware that the Classic Core plan does not pay for an MRI scan when admitted into hospital through casualty. Surely in the case of an emergency an MRI requested by the Doctor as a way of finding out what is wrong with her should be covered? She is still in the hospital receiving pain medication with NO diagnosis of what is causing the pain! Surely with the accumulated amounts of payments over the last 16 years accompanied by very few deductions you can find R7 500.00 to pay for an MRI scan!! Please be so kind to let me know what YOUR DEFINITION of an emergency is and to why you think you are qualified to consider an Orthopaedic Surgeon’s request for an MRI as insignificant.</p>
