Payment Arrangement Option not accesible in need
Good Day

It pains me that have to write this complain about Discovery Medical Aid, firstly my wife's Gynaecologist recommended The Glynwood Hospital for an operation to remove a cyst today 17/02/2015. The Doctor's receptionist called and got authorisation number#***9 and we never got an email or SMS confirmation for this, to highlight or indicate that the will be a co-payment R5650.00 in which cyst removal is categorised as laparoscopy somehow. Then I try to have this amount being paid from my MSA cause we don't have the money available now, to add on top the Doctor will be out the country this Thursday. So I am told the procedure needs to done first and apply for payment arrangement that will be accessed (with no guarantee). The Hospital say's pay up or die motto. They don't get into an arrangement as was told, given all this why have payment arrangement if cannot access it? Need to apply for it, turnaround time 3 days. Given all this the is no compassion for the customer and this case being special, I know will be prejudiced and Discovery committee will just not understand our frustrations. I have the funds in my MSA and need it but red-tape all around me. Gees Discovery.
Thank you for speaking to us.
As discussed, based on your chosen plan type, certain procedures attract a deductible/co-payment on the hospital account. Member's are able to claim this back from their available Medical Savings Account after the treatment has been provided. Unfortunately, the Scheme cannot pay for services not yet rendered as we require a valid invoice confirming treatment was provided. I realise that this was not the outcome you hoped for and trust that my explanation helps you understand our stance on this decision which is in line with the Scheme and billing rules. I provided you with the options you have available and await your response next week.
Kind regards
Bruce
