Pathetic Treatment of Patients - Waiting for more people to come forward.

I have been trying to get authorisation to visit a specialist for over 2 weeks. Discovery puts their ridiculous internal process, which do not make sense, ahead of sick patients needs. Their process states that in order to see a specialist, I need a referral letter from a Dr, but not just any doctor, a doctor that they prescribe. I have been seeing a Dr whom they presrcibed, as he was on their approved Dr list, for the past 4-5 yrs. Now that they have removed this Dr from this list, I cannot make an appointment with the specialist, because he is now, not approved to give this referral letter, as though he has lost his ability to refer a patient. I do not need a Dr as we have been seeing the specialist for years as the condition is existing for over 20+ yrs. I have been going back and forth on this issue with Discover standing their ground that my own Dr is now not good enough to refer a patient to a specialist. So now we must see a new Dr, do additional tests to tell us what we know, move a medical file from the previous Dr, just to get an outcome that we know we need. Hogwash and a *******. Strange how discovery responds asap to compliants on this public channel, but we need to wait 2-3 days if a complaint is sent to them directly. It explains the service patients are receiving. People only take responsibility when exposed. Waiting for more people to come forward.

Reviewer Update
Unapologetic Response from Discovery. One cannot have a set family doctor anymore. A patient has to change doctors regularly just to satisfy corporate policy. Response: The KeyCare network doctors are updated and advised on the processes that are required for KeyCare members and the necessary requirements for the specialist referral to take place. We understand that the member has a history of the condition and was treated by a doctor that was previously on the network and the process may not be ideal to the current case, however the current structure of the plan does not allow for the specialist referral from a doctor that is not currently on the KeyCare network. We also understand that you would like to incur the expense for the specialist referral process, in order to allow an exception for the specialist referral process, however the Clinical Department will not approve the referral from a non-network doctor. As such, we have identified that you contacted us on 16th February 2018 and requested for a list of General Practitioners. I have attached the list that was sent. The member will need to select a network doctor as the chosen doctor will be the member's first point of contact for the KeyCare plan. Members are allowed to change their doctors up to 3 times per year.
