Pathetic, Pathetic, Pathetic!!!
I have been going to the same GP for 3 years. I went to the GP on Monday, 30 April 2018 as I have the flu and I again returned on 02 May 2018 as I wasn't feeling better. I have been informed by Discovery that they will not be paying for these 2 GP visits as my Savings have run out and this GP (which has always been on their list of Network GP's) is not on their list anymore. When I asked why no one notified me of this, seeing that this is my preferred GP, and has been for 3 years, I was told that there was nothing they could do about it. I phoned and spoke to a lady called Thembi, who could not hear me and the phone call cut. When I phoned back, I spoke to another gentleman, and when I asked for his name so that I could mention him by name in my complaint, he put the phone down in my ear. I AGAIN phoned and was informed that the gentleman from the Cape Town Call Centre who put the phone down in my ear was called Stanton. In my third phone call, I asked to speak to a manager, and after holding for more than 13 minutes, I was referred to Joshan, from Adrian Gore's office, who had the audacity to advise me that had I been on a better plan (AKA the higher plans for the higher income groups), I would not have had this problem. As it stands, my financial situation is dire and I am trying to survive, but to hear that I chose this "low budget" plan and I should have read the documentation sent in January 2018, with the plan changes, aggravates me even more. Sir, if I could afford the best plan, I would have it. But as a single mother, trying to survive, one cannot afford to be picky. When I suggested to Joshan that the least they could do was pay for the one Consultation as an "act of good faith", I was informed that this is not how they do business. When I suggested they perhaps notify their members via sms when their GP's no longer belong to the Network, I was informed that this would cost too much money. So at the end of the day, they won't consider notifying you if your long-time GP (whom they would be aware of as the information and stats are on their system and with the help of all their Actuarial Department, they could filter the information and make theirs and their member's lives easier.) is no longer on their Network and that if you choose to see your GP, you will be responsible for all costs involved with the visit. Thank you for NOTHING Joshan and Discovery. Just a heads-up...When one of your members is ill and can barely stand up, it is rather inconvenient for them to first look up which GP's can assist them on your list of Network GP's because their MSA has run out and thy can no longer just pop in to see their GP who knows them and their medical status, as well as their personal situation, better than any other GP whom they have never met. But I'm sure this is just something else you do not care about as you merely run a business, and we as members are only convenient when we pay your salaries.
