Ongoing lack of efficiency for the past month trying to apply for medical aid as Type 1 Diabetic
Going to concisely explain this issue: I was a child dependent(because I am a university student) on my mother's Remedi Discovery Comprehensive medical scheme. She stopped paying, and my membership got suspended. I phoned Discovery on the 1st of April 2020 to apply for my own personal medical aid. They told me that I just need my mother's permission to remove myself off the medical aid, and put me on a 3-way call with my mother who then gave permission. Thereafter I got told that she must now fill in a withdrawal form to remove me from the medical aid, which I explained to them would not be possible for her to fill out because she does not have access to a computer or printer and we live in different provinces. I then got told that the form is not necessary and that I am suspended off the medical aid which means I am removed automatically, and it won't be a problem to apply for a new medical aid for just myself. Keeping in mind that I specifically informed the people I spoke with, that I am Type 1 Diabetic and can not go without medical aid, hence why it's extremely important to me to be covered by medical aid immediately. Fast forward a week later, and I phone to inquire about the process. I got told to e-mail a copy of my ID, and my e-mail got updated. Another week goes by, and I phone, they tell me to phone Discovery's Business department to find out how far my application is, because on the system it's still "processing". No answer at the business department. E-mail the consultant that I sent the copy of my ID to, to ask how far the process is, and when my medical aid will be in effect, no answer back. Phone a week later, get told that my application is not going through because they need the withdrawal form from my mother. I explain ONCE AGAIN that she does not have access to a computer or printer, and they tell me to phone the HR where she was employed (she's retired). I phone Upington Medi Clinic, and they switch me between 5 people(because the only person that could have helped me left at 2 pm) before I tell the fifth person answering if they can please just take down my details and have someone phone me back that can assist. It is now almost a week later, and I have not heard back from HR, I have not heard back from Discovery and I am extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism and efficiency. Everyone I've spoken to has just directed me to the next person in line to 'possibly' assist me, and no one does anything to actually assist with the problem in a helpful and effective manner. If this does not get resolved by the end of this week, I'm not making use of Discovery again, and will find a different medical aid scheme to assist me with cover.
