Not paying for moonboot that was issued in hospital to reduce swelling.

Membership number ********** 90. W van Wyk.
I sustained a level 3 Pilon fracture in my left ankle after a fall on 10th July 2016. I was rushed to ER and it was established that my ankle was broken in 6 places, dislocated and all ligaments torn. The swelling escalated after the dislocation was put back and the surgeons were unable to operate. On 12th July a decision was made by the Orthopedic surgeon that blisters were caused as a result of the cast and that the swelling would subside more rapidly if my ankle was put in a moonboot. This would ultimately reduce the waiting time for surgery and would cost (Discovery) less money.
I was issued and fitted with the moonboot for 10 days and remained in hospital the entire time. On 22nd July 2016 swelling was reduced sufficiently and surgery was performed and my ankle was placed in a cast (which I'm still wearing).
Discovery refuses to pay for my boot as it is seen as a take-home item, but what they seem to ignore that I only had it on for 10 days IN HOSPITAL and it probably saved them a bunch of money.
Can someone please explain to me the logic of this decision ???
