No retrenchment policy or help what soever

I received a call from Discovery a month after I was retrenched, informing me that I owe Discovery an amout. When I asked them why that is, I was informed that because I have used up my MSA and cancelled my medical aid before the end of this year, I owe them. I then explained to the operator that I was retrenched end of October 2016. It's not like I asked the company "hey, retrench some people two months before the end of the year". I obviously did not budget for this type of thing and, and my previous employer cancelled my medical aid for me.

After explaining my whole situation to the operator, all he told me was that if I do not pay the amount, my account will be handed over to debt colletions. I have a clean record and would like to keep it that way. If I find out that discovery sends my account for debt collection before I have received some decent answers, and I end up on the "bad list", sh*t will go down. I have logged a complaint with them, and was contacted a few days later. I asked if Discovery has a retrenchment policy and was told they don't. What the heck? Then I was informed that if I can not pay the whole amount once off, I must contact their accounts department to arrange for the amount that I am able to pay. Fine then, I'll pay R10 a month cause that'swhat I can do.

When I signed up with discovery, I was not informed about the MSA being a "loan" and I pay it back monthly. Why was I paying almost R2000 a month then? If something had happend to me, by all means then I understand, but I was not admitted to hospital via accident or any other emergencies. I had doctors appointments and most of the payments was payed cash out of my pocket because Discovery doesn't cover what they say they cover.

Highly disappointed with Discovery for how this situation was handled. Retrenchment is not something you see coming.
