No payout

In May 2016 my husband needed urgent assistance with a back injury. I contacted the medical aid on my way to the hospital to enquire if we are covered as we have a extended hospital plan. The operator asured me that if the emergancy unit admits him to the hospital then all is cover MRI, surgary hospital ect. However the Dr required a MRI before he was admitted the mediacl aid refused to pay so I had to folk out R 6500.00 cash for the scan. After the scan he was admitted, he was in hospital for 5 days, the specialist said that the injury is servere but my husband is to young for such a big operation and he believes that even if it is servere he can improve it by making some life changes. The hospital contacted the medical who gave them an authorisation number. However about three month down the line I strated getting SMS and email notifications that there are fees outstanding with doctors and the hospital. Not to mention I was not reimburshed for my MRI scan. So upon contacting the hospital I received then information that the authorisation number has been withdrawn, I mean withdrawn, how in the world do you issue an authorisation number and then withdraw it.

I made contact with the medical aid and was informed that the specialits office did not complete certain documents that was sent to them. So my fight started, if the Specialist doesn't complete these specific forms then none of the other claims will be paid. The reception at the doctor told me that they never received such documents. I then stayed on the line with both the medical aid and the doctors office until the mail went throught.

We are in February 2017 almost a year since the incident and yet today I received a SMS stating that my accounts are overdue.

This is unexceptable, you as the medical aid knows who submitted the claims on the first authorisation number, now me the customer must phone around tracing these offices to inform them to resubmit their document. that is to say if the authorisation number was ever issued because I never received feedback from Discovery to inform me if the specialits office did or did not complete the documents they were asked to do.

How do you pay an arm and a leg every month to ensure that if the time arise for you to go to hospital that you are covered, and then you sit with this issue.

Discovery never contacted me with regards tothis matter I had to find out obout it when the hospital wanted to hand my account over.
