NO MATERNITY BENEFITS PAID BEFORE REGISTRATION

I have a complaint on the process for maternity benefits introduced by Discovery in 2018 on the Classic Core Plan. I was 24 weeks pregnant and went for my scan on 04/01/2018, hoping to claim this against the new maternity benefits which kicked in this year. I called Discovery on 22 January to find out why the claim was not paid to my gynecologist, and was advised that I would first have to register for the maternity program on their website/app and then submit my claim. I registered immediately afterwards, submitted the information to my gynecologist, informing them that I had registered, and they need to send in the claim to Discovery. A few days later the claim was rejected. When phoning Discovery I was informed that because the scan was on the 4th of January, and I only registered for the benefit on 22nd of January, the claim will not be covered by the benefits. The registration process took 5 minutes to complete, but this apparently determines whether you are paid out of benefits, it does not seem to matter that you have been a loyal Discovery paying member for years. Being on the Core Classic Plan, I was very excited about the new benefits, as I had to pay for the appointments and scans out of my own pocket in 2017 - but now it’s just left me frustrated with Discovery and how these schemes are set up so that I will end up paying it out of your own pocket anyway, and Discovery doesn’t have to bear the cost. Many members will not be aware of the fact that registration is required before any maternity benefits are paid out, I don't think this is being made clear enough in the information provided.
