No GP Smart Network in suburb

Although the Smart Plan is a smartphone-based app, it is also touted as having the option of seeing a GP in person with a R50 co-payment. This is obviously important, as not everything can be done via video consultation. However, there are only very few GPs on their network in Pta, and none close to where I live (Pierre van Ryneveld) in spite of there being no shortage of practices on the area. The Samrt App indicates only one GP for the whole of Centurion. Dental care (which obviously cannot be done by video link) also seems to be a problem, as are specialist consultations. It would seem as if the Smart Plan is nothing more than a glorified, expensive and very restricted hospital plan with very little relevance for day-to-day medical care.

Hello hcr,

Thank you for your comment.

The doctors who have partnered with Discovery Health Medical Scheme on the Smart Plan Network, are those providers who are already integrating digital health technology such as HealthID in their daily interactions with members. The Smart Plan provides an innovative way for members to access healthcare services and over time as the demand and the membership base for this plan grows, we will engage and partner with more doctors who wish to offer our members a digital healthcare experience.
