NO CONSIDERATION FOR CHRONIC PATIENTS!!!
I called the Chronics department and spoke to a Shawn (I don't really care how his name is spelt) a few minutes ago. I explained that on the 20th January 2015, I was diagnosed with Diabetes by my doctor with a blood sugar level of 37.9 mmol/L. I explained that I drove to the pharmacy to get my medication and a blood glucose monitor because of the high and unstable level. consequently, I got the medication and the monitor but the medication and monitor was charged from my medical savings account. I launched an enquiry with a different employee earlier for the medication which is being sorted out.

The question now is \Why should I pay for this damn monitor for my MSA when it was an emergency?"Should I have smelt that I had to contact Discovery Health (praise be to Thee!!!) IN THE CONDITION THAT I WAS AND TELL THEM THAT I NEED AN APPROVED MONITOR (WHILE I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH A BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL OF 37.9 mmol/L IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!).

So you don't care that it was a medical emergency? You wont consider this as extenuating circumstances and take the money of the Chronic Illness Benefit instead? I wonder then how many other patients you treated the same? Dirty!"""
Thank you for your comment.
I am sorry to hear of your ill health and trust you are recovering well. I investigated your query and confirm that your chronic application was approved on 21/01/2015. Member's who have registered on the Chronic Illness Benefit (CIB) for Diabetes are entitled to one free telemetric glucometer through our preferred suppliers. The Scheme offers it's members various servicing channels for support including a 24hr service centre. I could not find any contact made to the Scheme to query the funding of the glucometer you purchased. The Scheme correctly funded your claim from your available Medical Savings Account as the device was not purchased from our preferred suppliers who would have couriered this to you. Unfortunately, we are unable to fund this from the CIB as the correct process was not followed. It is important for members to contact the Scheme to understand how their plan works and how we fund for procedures/external medical devices and other medical necessities. Depending on your plan type, members are entitled to one glucose monitoring device per year.
I am sorry I could not provide the outcome you sort.
Regards
Bruce
