NO CHRONIC COVER FOR CHILDREN WITH ADHD OR NEEDING RITALIN

<p>I app**** for chronic medication for my son who has ADHD and is on Ritalin LA and it was declined on the 01.06.2017. My son has no choice but to be on this medication, we have tried other medication and tried going without the medication with absolute disastrous results. I don't understand how we pay thousands a month for medical aid and then medication for A CHILD is declined. A child that cannot function normally without it . The savings given are shocking when you think EVERYTHING has to be paid out of them, optometry , dental , Drs visits , medication and in some cases even things "in hospital" are not covered as I discovered in January. After speaking to a supervisor and getting no joy, her telling me its not on the governments PMB list that is why its not covered... Why then do some other medical aids cover it ? Bonita's Fedhealth and Medshield all cover Ritalin under chronic medication for ADHD. So I feel my options with Discovery are extremely limited. I've now decided that i would much rather look into other medical aid options that will cover the medical needs of my son who cannot cope with life without Ritalin, and furthermore perhaps offer me more . Its shocking that a medical aid refuses to approve medication for a child, I have even said i will get further letters from the school and doctors indicating how serious it is , but was basically just told not to bother as it wont be covered either way.SHOCKING. So let me rather say goodbye to a medical aid that is not even willing to consider the needs of my family and find one that will.</p>
