Medical cover... NOT
Is there any point to having a medical aid when that medical aid is Discovery Health? Perhaps a hospital plan, but day-to-day cover seems to be a massive waste of time. Firstly, in March of this year, I gave birth to my daughter. At 20 hours old, an audiologists arrived to test her hearing- in hospital. Yet, when I registered my baby on my plan, immediately, the audiologist’s costs were deducted from her benefit. As this was done in hospital, it should have been covered as an in hospital benefit, but Discovery just does as they please. Secondly, last year, my Mom’s mammogram was abnormal. The radiologist asked that she return this year for another mammogram. As Discovery does not consider mammograms important, they will now only pay for one every second year. My mom told the radiologist this and he told my mom that Discovery would pay, as long as she had a letter from the Doctor. As I am the main member, I contacted Discovery for authorisation this past week. After having my call transferred twice and hanging on for as long as humanly possible, I had to end the call and I emailed the letter from the doctor through for authorisation. I received a snotty reply telling me that my mom has no benefits for a mammogram available. Discovery does not care about clients. They would rather see someone diagnosed with cancer before they pay for a screening procedure. My only conclusion is that this inhumane institution is worth a hospital plan, but forget them as a full medical aid.
