Medical Aid the new Mafia
******* behind phones.
Medical Aids are really the new Mafia. We pay for “protection” every month and the one time in years, probably more than 5 years of me using my medical aid in an EMERGENCY.. my claim was rejected.. 2 days after emergency surgery and recovering from the trauma of it I called Discovery, Auth department and cried on the phone saying do you understand that I have just been through surgery and now the mental anxiety to discover that my hospitalization will not be paid. It was enough to have a nervous breakdown!
The stress of receiving this account obviously progressed to me calling in, the person was quite unsympathetic not a well spoken individual and I highly doubt that this person bears a shred of medical knowledge. The person sounds like a trained robot to say “it’s declined”.
it wasn’t the surgery that was as devastating as knowing that you now have an unwarranted bill to your name.. that’s a game changer in your life.
I have explained so many times, my option does not have a casualty visit. I was admitted as an emergency. How can Discovery simply not pay a single cent towards it.
I am truly disgusted as a patient and really feel sorry for the Doctors that Discovery literally robs of their sustenance.
Doctors should not practice medicine but should rather become administrators and deal with patients according to how Discovery’s terms and conditions work.
Thanks to the Medical Aids that have paid less and consumed more, you are great contributors if not the biggest contributor to the failing state of health in South Africa.
Which Doctor would want to work in South Africa knowing that there is a high chance that medical aids will simply reject your claim.
Shame on you.
This is quite a misleading response, seems to be the Hallmark of Discovery!
A consultant called me and explained that they had to decline the auth as they ”were waiting” for information from the case manager- well guess what I went personally to the hospital sat with the case manager to comply with what Discovery has asked..
And this morning once again received the same email.
This is not even minimum service!!!!!
