Medical Aid Plan Upgrade

Hi there, I want to upgrade my current medical aid plan. However, I just discovered that I can only do so between October and December. One of the consultants advised that I leave the scheme for a month and then rejoin the new plan. That sounds a bit bizarre to me. Please advise.

Could you also confirm that there won't be a waiting period if I proceed with the above?
